Planning
For my project redesign I was instructed to make and 3D print a bench design. The design had to be a parametric bench with no 90 degree angles. A parametric bench uses layers of plywood with spacers in between to create the shape of the bench and there are many different ways you can design one. There can be designs as simple as one part layered over and over to hundreds of parts stacked together.
Designing
For my design I wanted to make the bench comfortable and interesting looking while simultaneously using very few different parts. In the end my design used 3 parts that could be layered in a pattern to make the bench shape.
Printing
To finish my design all I had to do was put it into MakerBot and get the file ready to print and print it.
After finishing my project I learned how to print an assembly that I made in Onshape. I also learned what 3D prints need supports and what ones don't. My bench print did not need any support whereas some of the other prints I did for the other projects I was doing did. Overall, I found the bench redesign fun and challenging because it gave me a way to really think out how I want something to be made.
