What is inventor?
Inventor is a 3d modeling software that we uses to create a model of the designs that we either create or are given. Inventor gives the user the ability to draw the shape from a 2d view and extrude that into a 3d shape, while also letting the user cut portions out of the object using the extrude tool as well. All of the tools on inventor combine to let the user be able to make almost any object imaginable as long as they can work the software correctly.
When we created our designs this year, we didn't have the ability to use Inventor because of at home learning due to covid-19. Instead, we used an online software called Tinkercad, where the tools were slightly different, but the user could still make almost any shape with the right process. The first thing I did when making a shape was I made the base of my shape
Then I found the parts that I needed to add on to the base that I could add with one rectangular shape, and I added them to the base.
Next I added any last parts I was missing to make sure that every part of the object was there.
Finally, to make sure that everything was together properly I grouped the pieces and my final product was finished.
We did this process for 6 shapes and none were very complicated so they felt pretty easy.
Summary
In this unit I learned how to make designs that can be 3d printed and turned into a reality. I learned that almost anything can be created with a 3d printer and the only limits are your imagination, the materials, and the size of your print. I learned that more than just cool looking objects can be printed but objects that can be used to do a task as well. And one final thing I learned was that 3d printing can be easy, as long as you know how to use your software of choice.
