The brake bracket
For our individual CNC mill project, we were given a sketch of a brake bracket that we had to create in inventor to be cut out on the CNC mill. The sketch had the shape of the bracket as well as all dimensions needed to make it.
Creation
Designing the brake bracket in inventor was pretty simple. The first thing I had to do was sketch the bottom face and extrude it.
After the first sketch was extruded, I needed to make sketches for the top face. All I had to do was make some partial circles and dimension and constrain them and they were ready to be extruded.
After that my brake bracket was fully designed and dimension and ready to be cut out on a CNC mill.
Summary
In the individual CNC mill unit, while I already had a good understanding of the tools in inventor, I still learned some new ones. I learned how to make a circle tangent with a line. This could be used for designing all sorts of parts like the brake bracket I made. I also learned how to take dimensions that I am given and put them into a design to keep the part the same size and shape, making it a usable part that can be repeatedly made.
